The holiday season is fast approaching, which means my family members start asking me what I want for Christmas. If you are stumped on what to buy the favorite runner in your life, these items are sure to please.
Oiselle Aero Jacket
Being privy to all of Oiselle’s newest styles, this jacket is one that I am most excited about. It is warm, yet functional, and transitions nicely from chilly long run to all-purpose wear.
Run Fast. Eat Slow Cookbook
Over the past few months you may have noticed an uptick in food photos on your Instagram feed among runner friends. This phenomenon is thanks to the release of Shalane Flanagan’s cookbook Run Fast. Eat Slow. Runners seem to be embracing cooking like never before, with Bison Meatballs and Superhero Muffins on the menu. With run-conscious, satisfying recipes that please the palate, this cookbook is perfect for runners of all ability level, beginner to elite.
Running Shoes
A runner can never have too many pairs of running shoes. With most shoes costing $100+ per pair these days, any runner would welcome a pair or two of her favorite shoes. Just make sure you know the exact size and style the runner in your life wears (Adidas Response Boost, size 7.5, in case my family is reading this).
Hydrosleeve
I should clarify here that I want a second Hydrosleeve. This little hydration pack for runners definitely beats my handheld version, and since I’m always losing things around the house it never hurts to have a spare!
Grocery Store Gift Cards
Runners like to eat and diet. A lot. But, if the runner in your life is anything like me, spare cash goes towards massage, race entry, travel, running shoes, etc. Your favorite runner has to eat, though, so a gift card to the grocery store can ensure she isn’t eating Ramen for the third night this week.
Believe Training Journal
I love to journal, and I think that logging is one of the most important habits a runner can have. Plus, it is fun to look back 10 – 15 years and see how I have progressed as a runner and person. The Believe Training journal was developed by professional runners Lauren Fleshman and Roisin McGettigan-Dumas. In it, runners will find motivational quotes, sample workouts, mental game exercises, and plenty of space to log their workout and recovery routines.
Roll Recovery R8
Recovery should begin the moment the run ends. Foam rolling can be painful and difficult to motivate yourself to do, while stretching is boring and may not be effective, according to science. The Roll Recovery R8 is a hand-held device that makes recovery easier than when using traditional methods, like a foam roller.
Picky Bars
Post-run nutrition is very important to me. I like to eat a snack that has a 4:1 carbohydrate to protein ration immediately after a run. Picky Bars are among my favorite because they are safe for my food sensitivities (namely soy and corn), and delicious too!
